Shang Xia
Located in the Chinese city of Shenzhen,
immediately north of Hong Kong,
this project for Shang Xia is split between
two sites within the same shopping
complex, encompassing a store for clothing
and accessories and a café serving tea
and cakes, which also sells homewares.
In each case, the focus of the vision falls
on generating atmosphere by means of
light, colour and materials. In the store,
a semi-enclosed central volume forms
the defining architectural gesture; in the
café, it is a lambent rectangular opening
that draws the eye, creating a quiet stage
for activity, against a backdrop of marble.
