‘All of us are pilgrims on this earth’ Maxim Gorky

The project to design the home of a new Cistercian monastic community in the Czech Republic began two decades ago. A ceremony of consecration in 2004 marked the conclusion of work on the church and cloister and in the interim the Monastery of Nový Dvůr has been granted the status of abbey. The monastic city is a complex entity with many elements, however, and the architectural endeavour is ongoing. Currently rising from the snow-covered ground is a chapel for the use of pilgrims, visiting clergy and the families of members of the community.
