Travels in Israel

Founded by the Canaanites in 1800 BC, the ancient port of Jaffa sits on an elevated stretch of coast between Haifa and Gaza. According to Greek legend, here it was that Andromeda lay chained to a rock off the coast, awaiting rescue by Perseus. Through Jaffa, too, came cedars from Lebanon, destined for use in the construction of Solomon’s Temple. During a recent visit to review progress on construction of the new hotel and apartments in the heart of the old city, an opportunity arose to travel inland to Jerusalem and the Dead Sea.
