Marks in time

This side elevation of a country church, with its visible archaeological remains, reminds me of one of those aerial photographs revealing the presence in the landscape of an Iron Age settlement or a Viking burial mound. The stone frames of the door and the window that were once functional elements have now become part of the surface texture of the wall.
