Jigsaw's Bond Street
store occupies two adjoining town houses, previously the subject of a
series of unsympathetic alterations. The design strips away everything,
allowing for the creation of a shop on
two levels, with offices above.
A double-height entrance has been created by cutting back the first
floor, giving an immediate impression of space and light and a dramatic
context for display. The ground floor is planned around four distinct
areas. Etched acrylic screens provide a sense of unoppressive
enclosure, minimise the visual impact of the structural columns and
provide a background for displays. A monumental staircase appears to
float in the narrow space between towering white walls.
