John Pawson Exhibition
Themes and Projects
IVAM
Valencia 2002
In the summer of 2002 the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia held the first major exhibition of John Pawson's work.
The opening section of the exhibition was divided into a number of
spatial themes - mass, light, structure, ritual, landscape, order,
containment, repetition, volume, essence, expression. Subsequent
sections included an exploration of the materials constant to Pawson's
treatment of space - stone, wood, glass and metal - and a detailed
examination of a number of key recent projects.
The show concluded with a photographic essay by Christoph Kicherer,
commissioned for the exhibition, of the twelfth century Cistercian
abbey of Le Thoronet.
